binomial experiment
A binomial experiment is a finite sequence of independent, homogeneous Bernoulli trials.
Formally,
a binomial experiment is an experiment such that
- the experiment consists of a fixed number of identical smaller experiments (trials)
- there are two outcomes to each trial, "success" and "failure"
- trials are mutually independent
- the probability of success is fixed between trials
A random variable which counts the number of successes in a binomial experiment is a binomial random variable, and it has a binomial distribution.
