Division by Zero Fallacy

A "proof" that 2=1 :

Let a=b Given
a×a=a×b Multiply both sides by a
a2=ab
a2b2=abb2 Subtract b2 from both sides
a2b2=abbb
(a+b)(ab)=(ab)b Factor
(a+b)(ab)=(ab)b Divide both sides by (ab)
a+b=b
b+b=b Substitute a=b (Premise)
2b=1b
2b=1b Divide both sides by b
2=1 Q.E.D.
The error occurs in step 6, where the equality is divided by (ab). Since a=b, (ab)=0, and we cannot divide by 0 (for this reason and many others).
