geometric sequence

A geometric sequence is a sequence where a subsequent element is the previous element multiplied by a constant value called the common ratio.

Formally,

gn+1=gnrgn=gkrnk

The partial sum of a geometric sequence is

k=0nark=a(1rn+1)1r

and the geometric series converges to

k=0ark=a1r

when |r|<1, and diverges otherwise.
