The domain of definition for a binary relation is the subset of the domain for which the relation holds.

Formally,
the domain of definition of the relation $R=\{(x,y)\in X\times Y:xRy\}$ is the set $\{x\in X:(x,y)\in R\}$.

The domain of definition of a binary relation is the preimage of the codomain of definition.
